The Epistle of James
James is one of the general epistles in the New Testament. It has been described as wisdom literature (like Proverbs) and is therefore, immensely practical. James exhorts us to a genuine Christian faith that is characterized by maturity. The book covers endurance in trials, a right perspective about being rich and poor, the dangers of personal favoritism, taming the tongue, the strife inducing sin of pride and its antidote-humility. It concludes with an exhortation to persevere in hope and a call to meet the practical needs of the church, with a pastoral appeal to restore erring brethren. In an age where wisdom is scarce, James supplies a timeless blueprint for exemplary Christian living.
